The Eighth Sea: Prelude is a stop-motion animated comedic short film directed and written by Sean Valutkevich. It follows the over confident, yet ill-experienced pirate, Captain Peele Jr. (Josh Brazinski) as he fights to retrieve the map to the treasure his late father was searching for from the clutches of long time pain in the a- we mean, rival/nemesis(ish), Captain Avarice (Nick Huapaya).
The Eighth Sea: Prelude is currently in post-production, with a planned film festival run upon completion. The goal of the short film is to introduce some of the world and characters, as well as the pop-up book inspired art style, for future projects such as a feature animated film.Â
This feature length project would continue the story of the Prelude. Leading Peele, Avarice, and others on an adventure after Peele is tricked by a deceased pirate legend, Darkbeard, into reviving him and unleashing the mythical Eighth Sea onto the world. A dark, all-consuming sea of souls consuming land masses, sea creatures and people as it spreads across the world like a plague. Leaving nothing but black, murky waters and sickly dark skies. At it's center, and the center of Darkbeard's attention, a magical treasure that, as legends say, allows one to communicate with and wield the powers of darkness itself.
